Informed Consent: Interviews

In addition to the Who’s Coding survey, the Who’s Coding research team will be conducting interviews with people who are willing to speak to us a bit more in-depth about their survey answers. Just like the survey, the interviews we will be conducting will also look at the outcomes and experiences of students in digital skills initiatives (also known as coding bootcamps, skills accelerators, and digital skills academies). The goal of the interviews is to provide deeper insight into student experiences and outcomes within UK digital skills initiatives with a view to understanding the factors that impact student success. The interviews will also aim to deepen our understanding of structural barriers to inclusion within UK digital skills initiatives and the UK digital sector labour market more broadly. This project is particularly interested in privately-run (non-University) adult programmes.

The point of informed consent is to ensure that you are aware of what role the interviewer would play, and how the information you would share during the interview would be used in the research project. If you agree to be interviewed, you would have to agree with the following statements:

  • You understand that you are being interviewed as part of the ‘Who’s Coding’ research project at the University of Edinburgh.

  • You understand the purpose of this research, and that you are able to ask questions about it at any time.

  • You understand that you are free to withdraw my consent for involvement with this research project at any time.

  • You are willing for this interview to be digitally recorded and transcribed for use as part of the research project.

  • You are willing for anonymised extracts from this interview to be used as part of the research.

  • You understand that anonymised extracts from this interview may appear in publications relevant to this area of research.

If you agree to be interviewed, you will be given a version of this informed consent statement to sign and give back to the Who’s Coding research team.
